Keeping the water conservation glass half full this World Water Day

News

On 22 March, we recognise World Water Day across the globe, highlighting the vital role that this precious resource plays in the survival of human beings, and all the systems that we rely on including sanitation, recycling and healthcare. With the advent of COVID-19 the realities of national water availability and conservation is of paramount importance.

As a responsible company operating in a semi-arid country, The Glass Recycling Company (TGRC) recommends some ways to use water more efficiently.

 These include:

  • Conduct clean ups and recycle waste alongside a local river or spruit in your area
  • Recycle & reuse so glass packaging doesn’t end up in water courses
  • Recycle to save water – Recycling saves water, because the extraction of virgin raw materials and manufacturing them into packaging, uses more water

“In the age of virus threats, it is also prudent for us to acknowledge the importance of water when it comes to hand hygiene, as it is essential to containing the spread of COVID-19 and many other infectious diseases,” explains CEO of The Glass Recycling Company, Shabeer Jhetam.

“Therefore, over the course of this World Water Day, and any other day frankly, please remember to wash your hands regularly with water and be grateful for every drop of this precious life-giving and life-saving resource,” concludes Jhetam.
